BREEDING 2

OK now you have either seperated your breeding "colony" or know a bit more about crickets.

Now i will teach you how to capture the eggs
I have tried a few different ways of capturing the females eggs. First way was to lie kitchen towel on the bottom of the tank 2 or 3 sheets deep, making sure its always damp. However with this way you also end up with cricket poo sticking to the kitchen towel, which becomes mouldy and attracts flies. The second way i tried is the best way i have found, and takes little effort on your part.

ITEMS YOU NEED (Plus selotape)
First, fill saucer with vermiculite
Cover top of saucer with fabric/mesh
Fix mesh with 4 pieces of tape
Turn over and securely fasten with tape
Moisten vermiculite then add to tank
Observe the females laying eggs

NOTE: You will have to keep the vermiculite damp otherwise the females wont lay in it. I suggest spraying the "egg catcher" every 2 days with a mist sprayer

Sorry the laying pic isnt one laying in the "egg catcher" but i am having major problems with my digi-cam at the moment. HOWEVER you can still see the stance the female takes when laying the eggs.
